Overview

Corbyn’s Cove is the beach you go to when you have half a day in Port Blair. It’s a small palm-fringed crescent on the coastal road south of the airport — clean, calm, easy, and busy with local families in the evening. It won’t compete with Havelock, but it has proper facilities, safe swimming, water sports and a decent sunset, and it’s fifteen minutes from the Cellular Jail.

Japanese WWII bunkers along the road are a reminder of the occupation years, and Snake Island just offshore is a snorkelling and (occasionally) scuba spot reached by boat from the beach.

Getting there

Any auto or taxi in Port Blair knows it: 15–20 minutes from Aberdeen Bazaar along a pretty road with the sea on one side. Buses run past too. Parking is available.

What to do

  • Swim — a sandy, gently sloping bottom with lifeguards in season.
  • Jet-ski, speedboat and banana boat rides — from operators on the beach.
  • Snake Island boat trip — a short ride out for snorkelling in clearer water; ask the boatmen on the beach.
  • Sunset with a coconut from the stalls, then dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.
  • Photograph the bunkers on the road in.

Practical notes

  • Weekend evenings are crowded; weekday mornings you’ll have it to yourself.
  • The water gets murky after heavy rain and rough in the monsoon.
  • Changing rooms and toilets are near the car park; there’s a proper restaurant, snack stalls and a bar attached to the beach hotel.
  • No alcohol on the sand.

Nearby

Pair it with a morning at the Cellular Jail or an afternoon at Chidiya Tapu (sunset point and small beach further south). Ross Island and North Bay leave from Aberdeen Jetty back in town.
