Overview

Bharatpur is the first thing you see arriving on Neil — a wide white beach curving away from the jetty, with a shallow, glassy lagoon protected by a reef a few hundred metres out. It’s the island’s main swimming and water-sports beach: safe, calm water for a proper swim, snorkelling over the coral bed just offshore, and glass-bottom boats and jet-skis working from the jetty end. Walk a few minutes away from the jetty and the crowd thins to nothing.

Getting there

Ferries dock at Bharatpur Jetty; the beach is immediately alongside. From anywhere else on Neil it’s a 5–15 minute cycle.

What to do

  • Swim in the lagoon — the best swimming on Neil, especially at mid–high tide when there’s depth over the sand.
  • Snorkel the coral bed offshore. It starts a short swim out from the beach; take a guide or a boat the first time to find the good patches, and check where the boats operate so you stay clear of them.
  • Glass-bottom boat — 20–30 minute loops over the reef from the jetty end; a good option for non-swimmers and children.
  • Jet-ski and banana boat — from the activity counters.
  • Walk south along the sand towards the resorts for a quieter stretch.

Practical notes

  • Tides: at low tide the lagoon becomes ankle-deep and rocky in places; check the tide time and plan swimming for mid–high tide.
  • Facilities cluster near the jetty — changing rooms, toilets, coconut and snack stalls, activity booking counters. Further along the beach there is nothing.
  • Wear reef shoes if snorkelling — coral rubble on the seabed.
  • Watch for boats when swimming out; stay in the marked area near the beach.
  • Popular on ferry-arrival mornings; quiet by mid-afternoon.

Nearby

Laxmanpur Beach for sunset and the Natural Bridge; Sitapur for sunrise; the market is a short walk from the jetty.
